Work related injuries are some of the most common reasons for new chiropractic patients. Repetitive motions or prolonged poor posture at work can be very degenerative and debilitating. These repetitive or physically stressful work movements cause a myriad of injuries in tens of thousands of Americans every year. The sustained motions such as those produced by prolonged computer work will often result in neck pain, low back pain, headaches or even carpal tunnel. Jobs that require repetitive lifting put a tremendous amount of stress on the low back and sometimes result in very painful and sometimes crippling injuries. When vertebral misalignments exist and are left uncorrected, these individuals are not only prone to frequent exacerbations of chronic tension and pain but they are also very susceptible to acute and serious injuries. Chiropractic is the only healthcare system and method to correct and avoid the misalignments that result in back injury pain and tension. Following a work related injury, not only will we evaluate an individuals physical condition, a careful evaluation of the individuals work environment is made so that helpful alterations can be made to minimize the physical stress caused at work. Usually, simple changes of work habits and environment not only help in the healing process but allow the patient to take an active roll in avoiding future injuries.
Carpal tunnel is a very common but frequently misdiagnosed injury usually caused by repetitive work involving the wrist or hand. Specifically, carpal tunnel syndrome is the pain and numbness that results from a compression of the median nerve which passes through the wrist between a ring of bones and soft tissue called the "carpal tunnel." When this tunnel becomes narrowed by inflamed tissue, misalignment carpal bones or both, the median nerve is compressed and pain and numbness often result. At Apex, we successfully treat and correct the cause of the compression with a combination of chiropractic adjustments, soft tissue techniques and work modification.
